Universal Health Coverage in Somalia

Universal Health Coverage is an important part of strengthening Somalia’s health system, but achieving it involves much more than increasing access to healthcare. This report looks at where Somalia currently stands and the challenges that still affect people’s ability to receive essential health services without facing financial hardship.

The report brings together key areas of health coverage, including maternal and child health, infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, healthcare workforce, facility capacity, essential medicines and financial protection. It also looks at how Somalia measures progress through the UHC indicator framework and where gaps in data and reporting make that progress harder to assess.

Alongside the analysis, the report considers how national health policies and reform plans connect with wider UHC goals. It highlights practical areas that can help move progress forward, including stronger primary healthcare, better maternal and newborn services, improved medicine and supply systems, greater domestic health financing and more reliable health data.

Read more to explore the report’s findings, UHC indicators, key challenges, and priorities for strengthening healthcare coverage in Somalia.
