THE MAN WHO NEVER LEFT A personal testimony of 21 years walking beside Dr. Abdulrazaq Yusuf Ahmed, Dr. Jalaaludiin
The Man Who Never Left records 21 years of service, leadership, sacrifice, and perseverance in the life of Dr. Abdulrazaq Yusuf Ahmed, also known as Dr. Jalaaludiin, through the eyes of a colleague who has known him for decades.
The account seeks to chronicle the medical life of Dr. Jalaaludiin, from his days as a student leader, through medical service in drought-, displacement-, disease-, and conflict-affected settings, to the risk-and danger-filled halls of humanitarian response, to leading the national COVID-19 response in Somalia, and his support in building the capacity of the De Martino Public Hospital (DMPI) and its health system to serve people better.
Alongside his commitment to teaching, mentorship, learning, research, health system, and public service, there is the personal account of his acts of sacrifice that led him down the path of service. The account of the life of Dr. Jalaaludin is a text on the nature of leadership as a lifetime of service to high-risk low source settings, fragile communities, and a better health system.
